About our Clinic
The Vaughan Pediatric Clinic provides circumcision care from an expert team of paediatricians and support health professionals. We provide expert circumcision care in a safe, comfortable outpatient environment and feel strongly about the comfort needs of both infant and their families.
Your child's circumcision is done in a clean and sterile surgical environment, ensuring your child has the safest procedure possible with expert attention to pain management pre, during and post-procedure. We will also carefully instruct you and give written instructions for your son's after-circumcision care.
Here is a great link about circumcision from AboutKidsHealth.
Please review your babies' eligibility for circumcision:
- My son is in good health and has no medical conditions
- My son is past 38 weeks of post-conception age and less than 1 month of age. Babies between 1 and 2 months of age will only be considered after the staff has had a discussion with the doctor.
- My son has received a Vitamin K injection at birth (routinely given at birth and prevents severe bleeding disorders)
- There is no family history of bleeding disorder ‑ hemophilia, Von Willebrands Disease
- There is no defect of the penis detected at birth (hypospadias, ambiguous genitalia, chordee)
Your baby will also be evaluated prior to the procedure to determine he is in good general health and that there are no structural abnormalities detected. If a health problem or structural abnormality is detected your son's circumcision will be deferred or delayed until further evaluations are completed.
Cost
Elective circumcision procedures are not covered under OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) unless medically necessary. The Vaughan Pediatric Circumcision Clinic provides procedures at a cost of $350. Your family doctor/pediatrician or midwife referral is not necessary.
During the consultation with the surgeon on the day of procedure, if for any reason if the surgeon decides that the procedure cannot go ahead as planned then the procedure will be cancelled and there will be no charge to the family.

Arrival Information
Plan to arrive 45 minutes early.
Come to our office at 8333 Weston Road Suite 310 and register at the front desk.
Please note that blood work is not required prior to this procedure.
During Your Visit
When you arrive, please register. You will be asked to give the infant acetaminophen (Tylenol or Tempra) on arrival. You will then be seated in the waiting area. Your child's name will be called, and you will be taken to the clinic room by our clinic nurse or health support personnel. He will be weighed, and your baby's Newborn Evaluation form will be photocopied.
Before the procedure, the doctor who will perform the procedure will discuss the procedure and its potential risks. You will have time to ask questions. Please note that families will be invited to be with their babies during the procedure to assist in providing comfort.
Pain Management
Please give your baby a dose of acetaminophen as soon as he arrives at our office. Your doctor will inject a numbing anaesthetic at the base of his penis. During the procedure your child will suck on a sucrose solution and his pacifier which gives further comfort. We utilize minimal restraint techniques which allow your baby to freely suck his own hand for comfort and we encourage parents to be at his side during the procedure to be with him and offer further comfort.
Circumcision Procedure
Circumcision is performed with the parent(s) or caregiver at his side. It usually takes 5-10 minutes to complete. Post-procedure you will be encouraged to hold your baby, comfort, and feed him for approximately 20 minutes. His doctor will return to provide a summary of the procedure, discuss post-procedure care and instructions and re-evaluate that things are ok and questions answered prior to discharging home. Your doctor will give you verbal and written instructions on how to care for your child after the surgery. It is important that you follow those instructions carefully. You can also refer to AboutKidsHealth for general information on caring for your child after newborn circumcision.
