Prescriptions not required for generic /behind the counter acetaminophen (tyelnol)

From the Ontario Medical Association:

Prescriptions not required for children’s acetaminophen or ibuprofen

There is an ongoing nationwide shortage of over-the-counter children’s liquid acetaminophen and ibuprofen products due to increased demand; however, prescriptions are still not required to purchase over-the-counter children’s liquid acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Pharmacists may have bulk stock bottles of liquid acetaminophen or ibuprofen available behind the counter and can dispense in smaller quantities upon request (no prescription required). Pharmacists are also able to advise parents and caregivers about alternatives to liquid preparations, such as other dosage forms or cutting/crushing immediate release tablets as appropriate. Some pharmacies may also be able to compound alternatives if required, pursuant to applicable regulations and standards.
