Abbott is recalling certain Abbott brand powdered infant formula products from the marketplace due to possible Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella contamination. The Link above indicates the products involved in the recall
Most people who consume these products will be asymptomatic
Symptoms to watch for:
fever
bloody diarrhea
persisting vomiting
severe abdominal cramping
unusual rash associated with high fever
- If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor
- Check to see if you have the recalled products in your home or establishment
- Do not consume the recalled products
- Do not serve, use, sell, or distribute the recalled products
- Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased
Alternatives to recalled formula:
- Breast milk
- Ready to use or concentrate of same brand not on the list of products recalled
- Substitute for Similac ALIMENTUM – Nutramigen, Neocate, Puramino
- Subustitue for Similac Pro Advance- Any cows milk based formula will substitute for Similac Pro Advance. Prepare according to label and offer similar amounts
- For babies 10-12 months and older can consider weaning to homo milk
